Gear and screw compressor
Compressor
The compressor must have a simple design, be able to handle different wind speeds and be lightweight.
It must also be taken into account that the performance of a compressor decreases due to the lower air density.
Taking these factors into account, a centrifugal compressor in conjunction with a screw compressor or just one or more screw compressors is very suitable.
A screw compressor can handle different inlet speeds and generates a maximum pressure of 15 bar.
The design of the screw compressor must only withstand this pressure.
If a high-quality carbon fiber with a strength of 7000 MPa is used, the entire screw compressor can be designed to be very thin and therefore not heavy.
In consideration of these facts, screw compressors are the best for this requirement.
Gear:
The wind turbine is generating only a few rotations, in the average between 13 and 38.
The compressors are designed to work with at least 6000 rotations per minute (RPM).
For the speed transmission a gear is necessary.
For this a multi-stage gearwheel transmission or a planetary gearbox can be used.
