Estimated Weight

Most of the construction is designed to be manufactured with carbon fibers.

The estimated weight is calculated with approved materials. The main material is a carbon fiber from the Toray company, a world leading company for carbon. This carbon fiber has a tensile strength of 7000 MPa, a tensile modulus of 324 GPa, a weight of 1,79 gr/cm3 and a filament diameter of 5 µm.

Additionally main parts are designed to work with the resistance principle for example the rotor blades or the diffusor, for this reason the material must not be fixed, it is enough if the requirements related to the physical characteristics are fulfilled.

This allows to reduce the thickness of the carbon fibers to only a few fibers for these components.

The estimated weight is: 1350 kg.

The calculation is done for the actual design, the design can be changed and the total amount of the weight doesn’t increase significantly.

Future Weight Estimation

For the future the weight can be reduced. A new carbon fiber was developed by Toray with a tensile strength of 8000 MPa

Additionally, there were tests to add graphene and carbon nanotubes in the resin,

this combination increased the strength up to 50 – 70 %.

On reaching the approval for these both technologies, it is possible to reduce the weight to 580 kg.
